Quick Tips for Your 3-Hour Sprint

5 proven strategies that separate 700+ scorers from the rest

Tip 1: Use the AD/BCE Framework for Data Sufficiency

Always evaluate Statement 1 first, eliminating either A/D or B/C/E based on its sufficiency. This systematic approach cuts decision time in half and prevents the most common DS errors. Write "AD" or "BCE" on your scratch paper for every DS question.

Tip 2: Read RC Passages for Structure, Not Every Word

Top scorers spend only 2–3 minutes on the passage, identifying the main idea of each paragraph and the overall structure. They read for the "skeleton" and return to specific sections only when questions require it. Practice active reading with mental paragraph labels.

Tip 3: Pre-Think Your Answer Before Looking at CR Options

For Critical Reasoning, always pause after reading the argument and question stem to pre-formulate what a correct answer should look like. This prevents the trap answers — which are designed to be tempting — from derailing your reasoning. Your pre-thought acts as a filter.

Tip 4: Time-Box Every Question to Under 2.5 Minutes

The GMAT rewards strategic time management over perfection. If you have not made significant progress on a question within 2.5 minutes, make your best guess and move on. Spending 5 minutes on one question costs you the time needed for two other questions you could have gotten right.

Tip 5: Use Plug-In and Pick-Number Strategies Liberally

For abstract algebra and must-be-true questions, substitute specific numbers (0, 1, -1, fractions) to test answer choices. This converts hard abstract problems into straightforward arithmetic, saving mental energy for genuinely difficult conceptual problems. Always test at least two values to eliminate coincidences.

Bonus Mindset Tip: Embrace the Adaptive Nature

Mindset

The GMAT Focus Edition is computer-adaptive: a harder question means you are doing well, not struggling. Treat every difficult question as a sign that you have already answered correctly. Maintain emotional neutrality — your score depends on accuracy, not anxiety. After this 3-hour program, every section becomes familiar territory.
